Journal of Media Practice and MeCCSA Practice Network Annual Symposium 2017 'Practice and/as Media Industry Research’ Hosted by the Media Convergence Research Centre, Bath Spa University
One-Day Symposium: Thursday 8th June 2017
Keynote Speakers: Prof Kerstin Stutterheim, Bournemouth University John Mateer, University of York Prof Bambo Soyinka, Bath Spa University
We are delighted to announce the full programme for the Journal of Media Practice and MeCCSA Practice Network Annual Symposium 2017, taking place at Bath Spa University on Thursday 8th June 2017 and hosted by the Media Convergence Research Centre. This year's symposium will explore the theme of ‘Practice and/as Media Industry Research’. Registration is now open.
While the study of media industries itself indicates a bridging between theory and practice – between the study of media forms and the pragmatics of media making – far less attention has been paid to what the study of media industries looks like as practice-based or practice-led research, or how collaboration between academia and the media industries actively shapes practice.
As such, the symposium will feature keynote lectures by Prof Kerstin Stutterheim (Bournemouth University), John Mateer (University of York) and Prof Bambo Soyinka (Bath Spa University) on questions of practice and/as media industry research. The day will feature a series of workshops about practices of Documentary Ethics, the ‘New Media Professor’, and Information Game Narratives, as well as panels devoted to Screen Cultures & Collaborative Practices, Digital & Media Art Practices, Film & Documentary Practices, and Media Education Practices. We will also showcase the winner of our MediaWall competition, which sought to attract screen-based artworks that creatively examine and interrogate questions related to the workings of the media industries.
