Games, Play, and the Planet: The SGA Academic Network Grows

As part of her ongoing role as Academic Coordinator for the Sustainable Games Alliance, MGC Co-Director Chloé Wake has been building a global network of researchers and institutions committed to advancing sustainability in the games industry. The latest session in the Academic Global Action for a Sustainable Games Industry series is now available to watch — and features colleagues from the University of York.

The Play for the Planet network at York brings together game designers, researchers, and educators working across digital, tabletop, role-playing, and hybrid play to explore how games can model complex systems, stimulate difficult conversations, and build empathy towards people, places, and planet. It's exactly the kind of work this series was designed to make visible and to connect.

The SGA makes all recordings publicly available in support of open knowledge-sharing across the industry. Watch the latest session below, and follow the SGA events page for upcoming sessions — the next Academic Global Action meetup is on 14 May 2026.
