Join us to welcome Professor Astrid Ensslin from the University of Regensburg, who will be coming to talk about her work in ludolinguistics — past, present, and future. Professor Ensslin joins us as part of established networks within both the Manchester Centre for Research in Linguistics (MCRL) and the Manchester Centre for Games (MCG). Professor Ensslin will be discussing her work in ludolinguistics, ludonarratives, and digital fictions.

Professor Ensslin

Professor Astrid Ensslin is Professor of Dynamics of Virtual Communication Spaces at the University of Regensburg. She is known for her work on digital fictions and video games, and her development of narratological theory to encompass digital narratives. From 2021 to 2022, she was Professor of Digital Culture at the University of Bergen and Professor of Media and Digital Communication, having previously been Professor in Digital Humanities and Game Studies at the University of Alberta (2016–2020). Professor Ensslin is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and has received numerous awards for her research, teaching and supervision. Professor Ensslin has been part of multiple large funded projects, including "Reading Digital Fiction" (funded by the AHRC and conducted with Professor Alice Bell, Sheffield Hallam University), and "Writing New Bodies: Critical Co-Design for 21st Century Digital-born Bibliotherapy" (funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada).
