A two-day conference bringing together practitioners, researchers, clinicians and community organisers to explore how tabletop role-playing games can support wellbeing, creativity and social connection.
Drs Gray Atherton and Liam Cross from the University of Plymouth, together with Dr Chloé Wake and Professor Paul Wake from Manchester Metropolitan University, are pleased to announce a two‑day workshop for UK‑based educators, researchers, clinicians, and community organisers who use or study tabletop role‑playing games in their professional practice.
Tabletop role‑playing games (TTRPGs) are gaining recognition as meaningful tools for supporting wellbeing, social connection, and personal growth. This event brings together practitioners, researchers, and community organisers to explore how TTRPGs can be used effectively in wellbeing-focused contexts.
Join us for a two-day workshop (July 29-30) where you will have the chance to engage in talks, case studies, and hands-on activities to share expertise and foster collaboration across the UK TTRPG academic and social care communities.
Participants will have the opportunity to contribute to a Delphi study on current benefits, challenges, and best practices, to be published in a peer-reviewed journal, alongside an open-access white paper summarising findings and practical guidance.
The event will also support the preparation of a large-scale UKRI grant application to fund further structured research into TTRPGs’ potential to enhance wellbeing, creativity, and social engagement in diverse care settings.
